Not my favorite of C.J. Box's books. It's a good story and well written, and gives an interesting picture of the Dakota oil boom and the issues surrounding this, but it just wasn't a story I felt engaged with. "Good, but not my cuppa tea" would be my take-away for Badlands.

It does continue some elements from The Highway, which I appreciated, and I am enjoying Cassie's growth as a detective.
