Visionary Women Around the World

Cute illustrations with brief bios. Each story is meant to give the highlights and encourage young learners to go find out more, and overall, it does well. There is a decent variety of women from different countries and time periods, although the collective biography graphic novel Brazen (for teens) achieves a much broader range. The artwork is cute and soft, with focused details that add to the story told on the left page. My one complaint (and this is valid for the previous book Little Leaders, too) is that each woman is shown passively standing with her eyes closed. For a book about how much women can do, it's disappointing that they are shown passive, instead of in action. Hand this book to someone who's interested in finding out a little bit about a lot of people, as a sort of biographical sampler plate. (Especially if they like adorable images.)
