A fictional memoir.... Doris has a Red Address Book. In this book, she keeps track of people who have had an impact on her life. Doris is in her nineties, so unfortunately many of the entries have had their names crossed out with the word “dead” added beside them. She becomes lost in the memories of when she was young and beautiful, a sharp contrast to the aches, pains, and weakness she suffers today. She begins to write letters to her great niece Jenny, so that her memories - both good and bad - do not die along with her. As Doris reminisces about her life, we see how the places she lived and people she met affected who she is today. Across the ocean, Jenny worries about Doris who seems more frail each time they Skype. But with 3 children of her own, it’s not easy to see her in person...until something happens that just may force the issue altogether. Pros: Nicely descriptive writing and an interesting format with the address book entries... Cons: Entirely too cliche for my enjoyment...I couldn’t connect with a single person in the book. Easy reading, but not nearly as touching as I had anticipated. 3 Stars
