Another great book by Card, a setting based on the application of the old myths to our day, I'm thinking with bit of a scifi twist to it. This sets the stage for the coming of age of a talented young boy with a uniquely troubled background who has to decide whether to follow the old ways or overcome the prejudices and temptations of his heritage. In reference to an earlier review, I do have to take exception. Trying to claim this book as anti-gay does a disservice to all. The incident referred to would have to be stretched to the breaking point and even then it wouldn't come close. What Card DOES do is portray in those moments the immaturity and juvenile humor of youths and teens in strange surroundings from varied backgrounds (including abuse) BUT that is not what the story is about.
