An interesting topic and generally a good book. I enjoyed the history lessons especially Issac Newton to Pierre-Simon Laplace (who I'd never heard of) but then the math/science got to technical for me. The personal accounts of the authors journeys were hit and miss. I didn't finish the opening chapter of his 12 hour stint sitting on the beach watching one complete cycle of the tide. But other site he visited were very interesting including a 12 km short cut across a bay when the tide is out and the largest tides in the world in Nova Scotia. There was a chapter on the tide in literature through history and an another on wildlife that depend on the tide that I mostly skipped. But in all, I'm glad I got the book.
