Read Alistair MacLean’s “Ice Station Zebra” instead. “Ice Station Nautilus” is not worthy and even seems to some extent plagiarized from the MacLean book. With lots of technical description, there was not much thought given to the plot. For instance: a unique, first-time rescue operation such as the one mounted here would almost certainly have been documented by video surveillance from within the mission itself and from without by satellite and even drones, with direct feed to the government agencies involved and constant communication in real time. That such a mission would have so little security attached seems ridiculous. These points seem almost to have been overlooked specifically so that the evil Russians could simply show up and start shooting people in the head. This violence was not worth having to read about because the book itself is just not good enough. I was so annoyed by this that I stopped there. I would not recommend this book and felt sorry I had spent the time reading as much of it as I did.
