This 2016 Pulitzer Prize winner describes, in vivid detail, the fall of Saigon during the Vietnamese war. Later, the book illustrates the many difficulties faced by the Vietnamese "boat people" immigrating to the United States. Personally, I found the darkly sarcastic writing cold and impersonal and none of the characters were appealing in any way. Oh, and I dearly wish the author wasn't completely allergic to quotation marks! Instead of this dreary book, I recommend reading *The Best We Could Do* because it covers many of the same themes without all the distracting bitter sarcasm.
