I skimmed a lot of this book. I guess it held my attention to the point I stayed with it to see what the great betrayal would be. The facts of the betrayal were not entirely predictable mostly because I expected it to be even worse and premeditated. Also, why would she think these people were wonderful and generous. The daughter of their (almost) lifelong housekeeper was struggling to pay for college. Her mother was anxious for her to become a doctor. The girl was smart and hardworking. According to their lifestyle, it would have been a drop in the bucket for them to put her through college. Wouldn't you be surprised they didn't.
