I really like My Morning Jacket, but this one is a bit of a snoozer. It's quieter, mellower, and folkier than their best work, veering into gentle (read: boring) singer-songwriter territory that recalls any number of 70s musicians and contemporaries like Fleet Foxes. The guitars finally get louder on "Tropics (Erase Traces)," but it's kinda too late at that point. I'm sure they're still great live, but this is maybe their most forgettable album.
