Director Norman Foster is no Alfred Hitchcock, and this murky public domain copy does his direction no favours. But its snappy screenplay (courtesy of Alan Campbell -- Mr. Dorothy Parker) give full value to a decent noir story. Unfortunately, the film runs out of energy, and doesn't know what to do with its hard-biting heroine, but it has a tense conclusion, reminiscent of Strangers On a Train.
