"A cheap holiday in other people's misery."
Art or photography coffee table books are so passe. Impress your guests with this handsome, lavishly illustrated hardcover book on the notorious Sex Pistols. Some might see this as the ultimate commodification of a genre that's synonymous with rebellion and anger. And, it kinda is, but it's still a nice book for the punk fan. It focuses on 1977, a watershed year for punk and for the band, who imploded spectacularly in early 1978. If you actually want to learn about punk and the band, start with Jon Savage's essential "England's Dreaming" and then move to John Lydon's self-serving, but illuminating "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs." Guitarist Steve Jones also has a book out.
