It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon. Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she's reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had. And don't miss Defy Me, the shocking fifth book in the Shatter Me series!

I really enjoyed the style of this book. I thought that it was interesting how the author left so much up to the reader which I really enjoy and that technique puts you inside Juliette’s head and helps you to understand what's going on. I also enjoyed how at the beginning of some of the chapters there were flashbacks that helped you understand how the character got where she was and how every setting worked together to give you the final picture. This book is the first of a trilogy and I am looking forward to reading the other two. 5 stars

Shatter Me is a book that brings out a variety of emotions from the reader. Written intelligently through a technique known as ‘purple prose’, it almost would have worked out for me if the author hadn’t overdone it. The amount of prose used was excessive and eventually just got bleak and infuriating. Needless to say, the storyline was exquisite and I just wish it was written better. Imagine being a weapon, yet not knowing if it was a gift or a curse? Imagine not seeing, touching or knowing anyone but yourself for 264 days as you were kept in a prison? This was the life of Juliette, whose touch was fatal but nobody knew why. It wasn’t as though she was a murderer and found pleasure in it. She hated who she was, the looks her parents gave her as they called her a monster. It ruined her and everything she was, until she gets a companion in her prison cell. Finally, what Juliette has yearned for is given to her, but she worries that it is all a ploy to kill her. Initially afraid, and then reluctant, Juliette’s story broke my heart but at the same time allowed me to appreciate that her weakness was not the only aspect of her character. This may not be a series I will continue, but I may attempt to reread it again in the future despite the frolicking and random sentences that occur. If this author reconsiders her writing style, this can be the next book of the year. (Rating 2.5/5)

My oh my. If you are reading this review, stop reading my review and go read this book! And when you are done, read the ENTIRE SERIES! I just finished reading the very last book and it has been an incredible journey! From now on, my birthday wishes will be for someone out there to make a show out of this series! Or 8 different movies! There is a reason why so many people are on hold waiting for this book! Add yourself to the list, even if you happen to be number 100 in line! The wait.........IS SO WORTH IT! TAHEREH MAFI, you are a legend! Thank you for this series!

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's addicting and beautifully written. I love the characters so so much Kenji made me laugh out loud so many times and the imagery and figurative is so beautiful and amazingly incorporated.

What an amazing read! The story was written so well that I just wanted to read it every chance I got. This book also included the "Destroy Me" novella from Warner's perspective. Looking forward to how much better this series continues to get

Didn't think I would like the unusual writing style but it really grows on the reader and could hardly put it down.

It started out good, but as the book went on it got less and less original, I felt as if it was the hunger games all over again.

This dystopian novel was absolutely incredible. I would definitely reread this book and the rest of the series. Throughout this book, I learned a lot of new perspectives from the characters. Tarereh Mafi, the author creates an amazing plot and not only she describes everything well, but she also includes details so it is very easy to picture a scene in your mind. She creates Juliette, a broken but kind girl, and she writes an unbelievable adventure for her. The book is written from Juliette’s point of view, which helps us understand how she feels. This novel has a lot of action, but some romance too. If you like this novel, I highly recommend you to read the rest of the series because it only gets better from here.

Love this book. I have read all the way up to “defy me” so far I highly recommend the whole book series. There are some adult scenes that are really out there. Once again I highly recommend this book if you are into romance, young adult, and dystopian. Because this book has all of that. If you like divergent, you’ll love this!

This book has been on my TBR list for a loooooong time now, and it did not dissappoint! I'm really happy that this was my first read of the new year, its obviously going to be a good reading year. As you all know I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, but I think this would be a good read for anyone trying to start with the sci-fi genre. Although I would say this had more of a dystopian vibe going on, think next Hunger Games, think next Divergent. If you like those two dystopian series, then you will LOVE this one. There's a little bit of something for everyone in this series in my opinion, there's Romance, there's a lot of action scenes and of course there are Mutant abilities! Although they don't call it that in this book. I definitely got some X-Men vibes. One thing I will say for this Book is that, nothing really gets wrapped up at the end, it is very much set up for a book two. This book completely left me wanting MORE, so I'm really happy this is a series and not a stand alone novel because I really want to continue following Juliette on her journey to being a warrior

Shatter me is an amazing book! I liked the book so much that I continued to read the entire series! Dystopian societies are typically a little far fetched for my liking, but the romance and plot of the entire story makes this book worth reading.

“I don’t understand—why won’t you talk to me?
You sit in the corner all day and write in your book and look at everything but my face. You have so much to say to a piece of paper but I’m standing right here and you don’t even acknowledge me. Juliette, please—”

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”

"Well you're the murderer," I tell him. "So you must be right."
His smile is laced with dynamite. 'Go to sleep."
"Go to hell."
He works his jaw. Walks to the door. "I'm working on it."
