In this riveting new thriller in Linda Castillo's New York Times bestselling series, Kate Burkholder races against the clock to find a missing Amish girl. An Amish grandmother is murdered on an abandoned farm, her seven year old granddaughter abducted. Chief of Police Kate Burkholder plunges headlong into a case that quickly becomes a race against the clock. She knows the longer the girl is missing, the more likely a tragic outcome. The family of the missing girl is well thought of--a pillar of the Amish community. Their pain is palpable and they cooperate in every way, but Kate soon learns they're keeping secrets... The investigation takes Kate to an isolated Old Order Amish settlement along the river in southern Ohio. At first, the community seems upstanding and helpful. But when Kate starts asking questions, they stonewall her--and the situation soon becomes dangerous. What are they hiding and why? After an attempt on her life, Kate unearths a haunting and tragic secret that changes everything she thought she knew about the family for whom she is fighting, the Amish community as a whole--and everything she thought she knew about herself. Will she reach the girl in time to save her life?

This was a terrific suspense novel. It had me hooked from the beginning to end. The challenges faced by Kate and Tomassiti had me turning the pages to find the resolution to these horrific crimes and bring the child home. It was interesting to view a little of the Amish culture. After reading other reviews, I see that this is a series. I'll be sure to read them.

I didn't know that this was a series, but I was able to jump right in with this book. I will backtrack now and read some of the others in this series. I enjoyed the strong female main character Kate Burkholder. I also enjoyed the fact that it took place in the Amish culture. I will add this author to my list of series books.

This is another great book by Linda Castillo. The series continues with Chief of Police Kate Burkholder and of course the investigation takes her into the Amish community. A good mystery.

Great read! The suspense was maintained until the end and kept me guessing, so I ended up reading it quickly.

Loved it! Another great installment in the Kate Burkholder series, which kept the suspense going until the last few pages - stayed up way too late to finish this one!

Enjoyed this book as much, if not more, that the rest of the Linda Castillo books I've read! I will be watching for the next one to come out!

I usually listen to audio books and have enjoyed Linda Castillo's books. This time I decided to read the book instead of listening to it. And I was disappointed by the usage of four letter swear words. When I listened to the books I don't remember the character saying f.....K and being so hard as she has become in this book. For that reason I didn't like this book. I don't believe an author has to resort to swear words to make her characters up-to-date and modern, it's just an easy way out.
