Awesome book! I really enjoyed it.
On the cover, is Cassandra wearing the same crown Galadriel wears in The Hobbit?

I enjoyed this book very much. I love John Flanagan's humor in certain characters like Thorn, Gilan, and Horace. I do think that he is dragging the series out a lot but I still really enjoy it. The book is, as all other ranger's apprentice books are, action packed making it an exciting read. But I do recommend reading the first two in the Royal Ranger Series (#1 The Royal Ranger, #2 The Red Fox Clan) before reading this book as you will most certainly be lost for the entire read. I would definitely recommend this book to all ages but as far as the level of reading, 3rd to 6th grade reading level would make the most sense.

In his usual style, Flanagan picks up mid-story with Duel at Araluen. If you haven't read the Red Fox Clan first, you will be lost. This piece of the story is action packed with less character development as Maddie, Horus, and Cassandra each have a part to play in their bid to keep the kingdom safe from rebellion. An enjoyable conclusion to this story, but I loved Red Fox Clan more.

Another great addition to the Ranger's Apprentice series!

This is the third book in the "Royal Ranger" series. King Duncan, Maddie's Grandfather, and her mother, the Princess Cassandra, are holed up in the south tower by the traitor Sir Dimmon. Maddie's father in the meantime is besieged in an old fort, with his troops and Ranger Commandant Gilan. It is up to Maddie try and convince the "Heron" Brotherband to help her free her father and his men, then confront the traitor at Castle Araluen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and well written. I am looking forward to other adventures Maddie will have as a Royal Ranger.
