The author hopped back and forth between decades. The book suffered because of that choice. This book would have been much better if told chronologically instead of hopping back and forth from the 90s to the 00s. When I went back and read the 90s story, in sequence for a number of chapters, it was clear that she is a good story teller and good writer. So it's unfortunate she chose this method because it didn't allow me to fully engage in the story for either timeline on the first reading. If you like getting absorbed, try reading the 90s chapters to the end and then the 08s from beginning to end.

I wonder why a talented writer would have messed up a good story with this over-used and ill-conceived approach.
