4 stars. This book was a Richard and Judy book club selection Summer 2018, which is how it came on my radar. I found this a very interesting, twisted read. We hear from 3 voices, Vanessa, Nellie and (later) Emma and at times, it was hard to decide whether one of them was a good person or a bad person. Vanessa is in a marriage that looks perfect from the outside. Her husband Richard is handsome and polished and has changed her life. Before she was a young broke pre-school teacher with a roommate and not much else going for her. But when she met and married Richard, she moved out to a gorgeous house in Westchester of unimaginable luxury and they had an enviable life. But soon cracks start to appear in her life and she and the readers are wondering if she is mentally unstable (like her mother) or is she a victim of a controlling and ruthless man? This is quite a roller coaster of a read and I found myself turning the pages and thinking about the book and the people in it when I wasn't reading it. A good read and a good twisty thriller.

The first twist in this book was awesome, havent seen it done before. The rest of the story was a little hard to buy... There is one key piece of evidence the main character returns to over and over trying to prove her story, and I am just so confused as to why she latches on to it. I think that this is a good book if you can look past a few cheesy things. Worth reading through to the end.

This book follows the jealous ex-lover plotline that had me eye-rolling with every turn of the page. The first plot twist was a welcome surprise but not enough to change the opinions I had already formed of the characters. The second plot twist was too much and quite frankly, unbelievable. Luckily, this book is a very quick and easy read because I wouldn't have bothered to finish it otherwise.

I had a very hard time finishing this book. The first twist surprised me. The second twist felt like overkill. Then the last bunch of twists were over the top. The story was dragged out too long and I found it quite boring.

I got this book from a friend, to be honest, not from the library, but I decided to write a short review anyway. The story is apparently very simple: a discarded wife is jealous of the new wife-to-be of her husband and tries to make their life difficult. But it is more complicated than that. The ex-husband is a violent, abusive men, so the wife is actually trying to warn the rival. It is not always clear who is speaking in the different chapters, but one thing is sure: the end is completely unexpected and you will have to think of some details offered earlier in the story to understand it. One thing that I didn't like was the husband is not punished, or at least that his money allows him to escape a harsher (but definitely well deserved) punishment. I assume this book might be compared to Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train or The Perfect Stranger, but I think it is actually weaker and boring in comparison.

I did not like the premise, the writing, the story, the layout, the beginning, the middle, the ending. I cannot think of one thing I like about this book. I rolled my eyes the whole time. I should have stopped reading but I was hoping that the story would get better but it never did. I decided well, I've come this far, might as well finish it.

Convoluted and confusing.
