"Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You'd like to get to know Grace better. But it's difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love. Picture this: a dinner party at their perfect home, the conversation and wine flowing. They appear to be in their element while entertaining. And Grace's friends are eager to reciprocate with lunch the following week. Grace wants to go, but knows she never will. Her friends call -- so why doesn't Grace ever answer the phone? And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim? And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows? The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie??"--

This book takes it too far. It is incredibly disturbing. Could not finish reading. I felt SO uncomfortable and just disgusted by the actions of one of the characters. I did not like the turn this book took whatsoever, and I read a lot of crime/mystery books and watch true crime shows so I have a thick skin. I think what puts me off the most is that this is fiction that someone spent time coming up with.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. Very hard to read in places as it is so horrifying. Has an incredible plot and will written characters. Would totally recommend this but be prepared it will get stuck in your head!

this book is messed up on a supreme level. it was a little confusing, but once you understand just exactly what's happening, it's terrifying.

The writing is so basic and the characters are so bland that I am forcing myself to read this. The first scene is the most inane dinner party with zero tension. It’s obvious something is off in the perfect world, but it could have been shown in one page — not an entire scene of eye-roll-worthy conversation.

I’m only going to power through for a writer’s group discussion.

This book kept me engaged the whole way through. I read it in one day and couldn't put it down! Good characters and a great story line. At times I felt that the circumstances were just as hopeless as Grace felt, and thought it was a clever ending.

A good story and excellent ending. Glad for the opportunity to see what all the fuss was about.
