A emotional and moving journey following a young girl's grief over the loss of her mother and another unexpected loss. The illustrations definitely add to the story.
Lucy Everhart lost her marine biologist mom when she was seven. She and her dad have been existing ever since. Now at 12 years old, she is about to experience another tragedy along with the rest of her Rockport, Massachusetts community. Despite the losses in Lucy's life, she finds solace in learning about her mom's shark research and why great whites are showing up along the Cape Cod coast. This is a warm and funny story tweens and, even grownups, will enjoy. Take a trip to Cape Cod to learn about sharks, family, and friendship without leaving home...
A poignant novel about love, loss and sharks (with excellent illustrations). A book to read when you aren't pressed for time so you can enjoy the writing and feeling the feels (there's a lot!).
Another BIG fan here. This book is seriously so good. And, honestly, there is too much I loved to put in a short review. I feel obligated to mention the characters, though. Not one seemed unbelievable. It was like they could walk right out of the book without notice. In some odd way, I found that comforting… and inspiring, actually. We could all learn from the way they processed grief. They were kind and open and straight forward with one another. I kept thinking, “This is how we should always be.”
One of those stories that pulls you right into the hearts of the characters and takes you along on their rocky journey. To keep everyone from collapsing completely there are good friends, good neighbours and great white sharks. Nevertheless, keep the tissues close by.
Shark! The capture of a Great White close to Rockport, Massachusetts sets the tone for this new middle grade book about Lucy and her quest to learn about her dead mother, a renowned biologist specializing in sharks. This book contains some really great shark facts as well as a good bit of tragedy. Love the little band of folks that Lucy accumulates as she sets a goal of continuing her mother's work. The shark illustrations throughout are top notch. Would recommend to older kids.
