Keralie is the best pickpocket in all of the kingdoms of Quadara, but when she steals a "comm disk" and realizes a royal murder plot is afoot, she must learn who to trust and fast.
Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but she's, in fact, one of Quadara's most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadara's most enlightened region, Eonia. He runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie both find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadara's queens dead. With no other choices and on the run from Keralie's former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nation's four dead queens.

It was waaaaaay too confusing. the author tried to cram as many characters as possible into this book, and you can tell. it had a lot of potential, but came up short. I also found the love interest boring.

Had so much potential. You can tell the author has a film background by her writing style. All the action crammed into the last third of the book. Fairly predictable story line

I haven't read the book yet and I was about to place it on hold. Then I realized that thee was a comment so I read and it really made me think if I wanted to get it or not. When you says that it jumps back and forth, do you still understand what is happening in the story or does it completely mess with your thinking?

The concept was compelling. Four queens rule a land, each over their own quadrant. Before each queen dies, she must have a female heir ready to succeed her. Cue the cons working on the wharf of Jaffe' who want to maintain their livelihood and feel threatened. Our story is told from the perspective of conwoman Keralie and each of the reigning queens. Keralie is directed to steal some memory chips that totally change her life. To avoid spoilers I think I will leave it at that. I do think the narrative was a bit confusing. The story was clearly jumping back and forth in time but it was hard tell how much as the entire book really only encompasses about a week.
