Detailed photography and a floor plan for each structure highlight inventive space-saving design features along with the nuts-and-bolts details of heating, cooling, electric, and plumbing systems. The real-life stories of residents impart the pleasures, as well as the challenges, of day-to-day living. This compendium includes not only trailer-mounted small homes but also a house boat, several tree houses, and several unusual small dwellings. Each entry has floor plans, an exterior view and several interior photographs. The author provides his remarks about the features and weaknesses of each example; and remarks by the owners on their experiences and if-we-did-it-again thoughts. The homes range from amateur construction using scrap materials up to meticulous wood-working projects by craftsmen. Almost all the small homes in this collection have toilets and showers.
