I agree with the other posts, this is not much of a film. Not sure if there was suppose to be a point to this? Great to see Tom Waits working though! The period sets were cool, that's about it.

This is not a comedy. Really slow whatever it is. It is more of a record of what he was doing day to day. No character development worth talking about. Slow and boring.

I found this very boring, in fact, I nearly popped off to sleep. don't think I made it even halfway.

Not much of a movie. This was entertainment only because there was nothing else happening. Apparently a true story. An old guy robs banks for fun and profit.

Too bad Robert Redford chose this stinker as his last movie. Unfortunately The camera still loves his face but there comes a time when the close up is just not a good option. Sissy S was good but other than that, I would not recommend the movie.

I have liked many Robert Redford films (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: 1969; All the Presiden'ts Men: 1976; Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 2014; Walk in the Woods: 2015), however this is not one of them. It is slow, boring and confusing, of which I blame the director/writer, David Lowry (Pete's Dragon: 2016; A Ghost Story: 2017). This was based upon a 2003 New Yorker article written by David Grann (whom wrote the 2009 book, Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, in which was made into a good 2016 movie!).
For the real bank robber, Forest Tucker, that was a considered, charming, and always with a smile, this film should not have been so dull. After all it did have some accomplished and likeable supporting actors, such as Sissy Spacek (Carrie: 1976; Coal Miner's Daughter: 1980; The Help: 2011), Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea: 2016; Light of My Life: 2019), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon movies: 1987, 1989,1992, and 1998), Tom Waits (musician and actor), and Tika Sumpter (Southside With You: 2016).
Did not spend the time watching the DVD Special Features.

I like Robert Redford as an actor. I think his voice makes him a distinctive actor. The last movie I saw him in before this was called The Last Castle. I enjoyed that movie so much I watched it over and over again. So when I picked this movie up I had expectations of the movie. The movie was disappointing especially the ending. Robert Redford did the same job as an actor and was not totally disappointing but the movie itself and direction was. The end also did not make sense. As a 74 year old man who was caught for armed robbery and high speed chase in which the FBI was called in and he already had a list of prison time and charges would end up getting a sentence so long that he would die in prison. However, with this movie he ends up going to prison and next minute you know he is out again. He does not even look as if he aged much in which you would think he would have been 84 years old if he got out with good behaviour. It just did not make sense?

Armed Robbery in Texas
In some states there is a felony charge for Armed Robbery; however, in Texas “Armed Robbery” is a kind of Aggravated Robbery. "Robbery" happens when someone is trying to steal something (commit theft), and while the person is trying to commit theft they hurt someone or threaten someone. It becomes "aggravated" if the robber is armed or has a deadly weapon. A deadly weapon is not just a gun or firearm, it also includes anything that could cause death or serious bodily injury. So, if someone commits robbery while using (even displaying) a deadly weapon then the charge becomes aggravated. This increases the possible punishment. Without any criminal history, an aggravated robbery sentencing Texas ranges from a minimum of 5 years to 99 years or Life in prison (Texas Department of Criminal Justice). Because this is considered a "3g Offense," you cannot get probation from a judge after a trial. Only a jury could decide to give you probation. So, if you are accused of armed robbery or aggravated robbery in Texas, then you need to speak with a Fort Worth criminal defense attorney immediately.

Inspired by the New Yorker story of the protagonist:

Just before Forrest Tucker turned seventy-nine, he went to work for the last time. Although he was still a striking-looking man, with intense blue eyes and swept-back white hair, he had a growing list of ailments, including high blood pressure and burning ulcers. He had already had a quadruple bypass, and his wife encouraged him to settle into their home in Pompano Beach, Florida, a peach-colored house on the edge of a golf course which they’d purchased for their retirement. There was a place nearby where they could eat prime rib and dance on Saturday nights with other seniors for $15.50 a person, and even a lake where Tucker could sit by the shore and practice his saxophone.

But on this spring day in 1999, while his neighbors were on the fairway or tending to their grandchildren, he drove to the Republic Security Bank in Jupiter, about fifty miles from his home. Tucker, who took pride in his appearance, was dressed all in white: white pants with a sharp crease, a white sports shirt, white suède shoes, and a shimmering white ascot.
