In this taut and thrilling debut, an unraveling woman, unhappily childless and recently separated, becomes fixated on her neighbor--the beautiful, famous actress. The unnamed narrator can't help noticing with wry irony that, though she and the actress live just a few doors apart, they are separated by a chasm of professional success and personal fulfillment. When an interaction with the actress at the annual block party takes a disastrous turn, what began as an innocent preoccupation spirals quickly, and lethally, into a frightening and irretrievable madness.

I wasn't going to stick with this one but didn't have anything else queued up.

Very muddled. The ending was so abrupt that I was beginning to think not all of the book downloaded onto my Kindle. But, no. It was the (not so end) ending.

Inside the head of a bitter slightly crazy woman making bad decisions. If that's your thing you may like it. Me, I'd prefer a plot, some action, maybe a sympathetic character or two. Or something - anything - interesting.

I enjoyed this book. I think that the skill in this work is introducing us to a narrator who seems normal enough, but then letting us sit by them as more and more they respond to the consequences of their own actions. There where many instances where I put a hand over my mouth and whispered "Girl, don't." The story moves in such a way that we are more like the narrator than unlike and its that welcome that allows the plot to effect us so. A quick, good read.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a thriller but it seemed more of a character study of a chick who starts to lose it and becomes obsessed with her actress neighbor. And becomes more of a crazy cat lady than I. It was a linear reading experience of skepticism of the main character. Save yourself and read something else.

This was a complete waste of three hours of my life. I just kept telling myself it had to get better, there had to be some purpose, some great encounter to make it all worthwhile. Spoiler: there wasn't. It was terrible from start to finish. The whole "lady loses her mind and tanks her life" idea has been done better.
