When twins, Ava and Vera were six years old, a life changing event happened. The Halloween night that the River’s can’t forget. Ava Rivers went missing. The whole town was searching, the family was famous and even the FBI became notified. However, nobody could find Ava. Now at eighteen, Vera can’t wait to escape to college and leave everything behind. One day a girl shows up at the local hospital, her name is Ava and she is looking for her home. The River’s quickly rush to the hospital to find her and they are happy again. However, the case doesn't make sense and Ava is hiding a secret. This book was amazing! It was very suspenseful and it made me want to keep reading. I highly recommend this book for anyone ages fourteen and older. Rating- 5/5 stars. @readit12 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
Vera Rivers's humourous and introspective narration, along with the flawed and realistic characters, made this story worth a read. Ava is scarred by her years with Jonathan and doesn't magically heal the moment she is out of his grasp. It's clear that a lot of care was put into respecting the survivors of abuse and trauma. 4 stars.
