A story of Men with white privilege, who have opportunity is handed to them. They treat it like a joke and hurt others in the process. The disrespect for others and the main principles of a beautiful Public library really enraged me. The director did an excellent job with the shots and time line. The acting was OK. The music is very well matched to the scenes.

This is a fascinating look at how seemingly good kids do something horrible.

This movie will be particularly horrifying for bibliophiles.

I wouldn’t say this documentary is gripping or fascinating. But maybe compelling. That we see the reenactment and listen to and see the actual players is an interesting twist on their crime. I agree with Ms. Gooch, the librarian, that when they crossed the line and didn’t want to achieve, share or pursue a promising life they took a stupid, reckless lasting adventure.

We were bored. This is a docudrama about four students who try to rob a Kentucky university's special collections department. interspersed with the reenactment are the actual criminals' stories. It wasn't particularly dramatic or engaging, just boring.

American Animals
A very funny movie based on the true story of 4 university students’ attempt to steal rare books from the Special Collections Library of their university. Interspersed throughout the film are documentary interviews of the real-life thieves. I give it 2 thumbs up!

Sucks you in. Truth is always stranger than fiction. Loved hearing the real-life characters talk about it years later.

Strangely compelling. It is like watching a drunk cross the street knowing he will trip over the curb, but you watch anyway. I think I was supposed to find it funny--the "this is not based on a true story" disclaimer suggests that it is tongue in cheek, but I still couldn't look away as the disaster unfolds in the ex-cons' own words.

Well off, idle kids doing stupid stuff, hoping for "life altering" experience....What happened to maturity?

A docudrama about a painfully amateurish robbery based on the true story of a library heist at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in 2004. A bit confusing and annoying timeouts with the frequent jumping back and forth between the real robbers with their fuzzy "alternative facts" and the actors who portrayed them. "National Treasure 2004" is not, not even close.

SPOILER ALERT --- From the real library, not the actress:

I think they wanted things to come easy for them. They did not want to work for a transformative experience. They didn't want to help other people to achieve a transformative experience. I find them all very selfish. And I see they all have trouble figuring out how a person crosses a line in their own mind, to be willing to hurt another person to get what they want. And I think that, once you've crossed that line, I think it's a dangerous line to cross. It makes me wonder if they really know why they did it.
Story telling at its worst:
Looking back on it, I've often wondered which events I remember from Warren's point of view, or I remember from my own. And, if it was easier to choose one over the other because of what it provided for us. I don't remember if the guy I saw in Central Park was someone that I saw or somebody that Warren told me I saw.
