"Marnie MacGraw wants an ordinary life -- a husband, kids, and a minivan in the suburbs. Now that she's marrying the man of her dreams, she's sure this is the life she'll get. Then Marnie meets Blix Holliday, her fiancé's irascible matchmaking great-aunt who's dying, and everything changes -- just as Blix told her it would. When her marriage ends after two miserable weeks, Marnie is understandably shocked. Marnie doesn't believe she's anything special, but Blix somehow knew she was the perfect person to follow in her matchmaker footsteps. And Blix was also right about some things Marnie must learn the hard way: love is hard to recognize, and the ones who push love away often are the ones who need it most."--

Adorable. Marnie’s attempts at matchmaking all fail but she is totally unaware of being matched right back by the universe. Or by the universe with a bit of Blix thrown in. Blix knew what she was doing by getting Marnie to come to New York. Life is more exciting when you don’t accept just settling. Go Marnie!

Perhaps the only unbelievable element here is the fact that Marnie doesn't see that her fiance is a tool, but she learns this over time. The characters are very rich, so you can imagine them as you read the story. It's a great weekend read, and has a very satisfactory ending.

This little book, ‘Matchmaking for Beginners’ just plain left me with a smile on my face. It's the kind of book you can SEE as you read it with the kind of character that you can SEE puffing a sigh out of her lips and blowing up her bangs.

The characters of ‘Matchmaking for Beginners’ are full and rich, even the ones we dislike are vivid in the fullness of who they are. Their stories make our eyes roll, make us impatient, make us sad, glad and left with a magical feeling.

Marnie MacGraw is propelled by a sweet old woman to re-examine what she wants and needs in her life. Is that much different than when some of us want and are determined to go one way in our lives, yet something, God, the universe, keeps pushing us to go another until we learn from our mistakes, to just stop fighting it and enjoy the ride?

Wonderful story.

I felt that the synopsis gave a totally different vibe than what actually went on in the book. The main character was as her ex boyfriend stated “delusional” and quite clueless about everything. She was boring, had no backbone and had no qualities that made you want to root for her! First with the whole wedding situation, then with Jeremy and later with the Noah situation again. Why are we supporting her actions??!! No reader would if she was just a supporting character. Another thing, I found it hard to believe that Jessica was fine and supportive with what Marnie was doing considering her own story. Everything was just unbelieveable!!!

I think if I really had to find one good thing about this book it would be Blix.

Light-hearted magical realism in this tale of Marnie, a young woman whose world falls apart when her fiancé tries to stand her up at the altar, and then dumps her during the honeymoon. His great-aunt Blix attempts to take Marnie under her wings and give her the BIG LIFE Blix envisions for her. I guess I would like this sort of thing better if I were looking for my own BIG LIFE.

It was enjoyable breezy book except for a few turns by Marnie, the main character which really soured the plot. I am not sure why she picked up a fiancee and proceeded to treat him like a jerk because he was incredibly boring. She has times when she looks very callous rather than the magical center of life that Blix was.
