Published in America also as *The Lost Conspiracy*.

A stunningly original fantasy novel by the author of *Fly By Night*. Hathin’s sister Arilou is a “Lost” – a person with the ability to send her mind and senses to other places. The Lost act as seers, messengers, and leaders for Hathin’s world. Hathin assists Arilou as her translator to the rest of society – and she is hiding a secret that could endanger their village. When all of the Lost except Arilou are murdered in one terrible night, only Hathin and Arilou are left to save their society. But whoever killed the other Lost is now looking for them. This is a complex society, brilliantly imagined with feuding races, smoldering volcanoes, a long, dark past, and unusual magic. Hardinge fills the book with amazing characters, complicated villains, and a plot centered on the tension between revenge and forgiveness.

Hardinge is a writer with a unique depth of imagination and creativity of language.
This could become a modern classic, enjoyable by adults, teens, and older children.

If you are looking for a big fat juicy read, this is it. A unique and compelling fantasy world with brilliant characters and gripping action. Frances Hardinge writes stuff completely different from anything you've ever read-- read everything by her!
