This movie can be hard to watch, because of the brutal reality on full display. The true life story of a young career woman in the 1970's who refused to confront the stressors she faced, and the downward out of control spiral her life fell into, as a result. Throughout the storyline, I kept thinking, wow, this is the real life Mary Tyler Moore. It's clear at the very end of this motion picture, the writer, director, and producers were thinking the very same thing.

Looking for a happy ending? Look elsewhere.

Looking for a study in psychological behaviour and a riveting personality profile? This is the one.

Looking for a stand-out performance by a no-name actress, Rebecca Hall? Hey, your lucky day!

Based on "true events"--wow, is it ever!--Christine captures the time and place perfectly (as someone who was just about Christine's age, and who was also working hard in 1974 to make a advance myself in broadcasting, trust me! This movie is very accurate.)

As TV station news anchor, great back-up work by "Dexter", Michael C Hall.

A combination of self doubt and ambition plagues Christine in a sad, real life story of an aspiring newscaster. Rebecca Hall (Christine) does an incredible job of portraying a woman on the brink living through personal and professional disappointments.

I'm an hour into this movie and it is so boring! I will not waste anymore time!

Well acted indeed and an interesting story to boot, yet what a dud of a movie!

After watching two great films in a row (Sing Street and Dark horse, which doesn't seem to happen for me anymore), I excitedly prepared to make it a trifecta only to be disappointed.

Rebecca Hall does a fantastic job of bringing the complex character of Christine to life. Yet, something is missing. Yes, that is part of the mystery of what led Christine to her desperate act. Those around her know she's distant and able to be caustic but they don't expect the end result.

Her "roommate" mentions "what happened in Boston" and we are led to understand that Christine had a breakdown while there but there was just not enough for me to stick with caring about Christine and the parade of disappointments in her life.

I did enjoy experiencing the behind-the-scenes TV-station politics and arbitrary decision-making for the stories that make it to the news.
