Le tout nouveau testament (2015) - 4 stars and a half! Religious comedy (is there such a thing?) meets magical realism. As a movie, it may not be for everyone. But if I ever saw a movie that is "food for thought", is this one. It was fun watching it with others, and then debating the themes that the movie presented. What if God actually lives in Brussels with his teenage daughter and wife? I think the value of the movie goes beyond its playing time, is what you think about it, and what you talk about it with others. Recommended for: Spiritual people. NOT recommended for: people with no humor, or very religious (the more religious you are, the less you will enjoy the movie).

"God exists. He lives in Brussels." (Also a vindictive so-and-so!) "The Brand New Testament" is simply wonderful entertainment with a charming lead in Pili Groyne as God's daughter Ea. Not for all tastes as noted below. (Not sure how I'd respond if I came home and found the missus in bed with a gorilla!)

amusing and bemusing. some laugh out loud moments even in the 'making of' feature, which follows along in the same vein as the movie.
most puzzling: the gorilla

I did not find this movie amusing in any way, even with the myriad of different characters, or "apostles". It's a slow grind in many places with its fair share of oddities. It had potential of being something cool, especially with the release of humanity's death dates...but it fell flat. Nothing remarkable here.

This is a fabulous film. Some may feel that it is sacrilegious, However, I appreciated the way it explored and challenged religious doctrines, as well as patriarchal societies. I highly recommend it!

A modern dark satire of religion. While not being laugh-out-loud funny, this film has humour that invokes deeper thought. The film is very reminiscent of "Amélie" while still being unique. "The Brand New Testament" offers a creative look at what life would be like if people knew how long they had to live. I will be buying a copy of this film as I already have the desire to watch it again.

A feminist view of what could be, tongue in cheek. Very well acted, in spite of the Chinese woman who is playing at being Inuk. A fun look at how the world came to be.
