Unfortunately it doesn't stand the test of time. Talk about leaving your DNA all over the place!
We fast forwarded a lot and laughed at the stupidity of the plot..

Classic noir.

Great neo-noir film. If you're a fan of the Coen brothers, it's worth a go.

Meh. I like the Coen brothers, but this is certainly not their best work. A touch too slow, it's a decent first attempt, what with it being Joel's directorial debut, but the brothers had yet to come into their own. RAISING ARIZONA and FARGO are more my speed. I'd skip BLOOD SIMPLE. You're not missing much.

Interesting little film. A bit uneven, but quirky enough to keep you interested. At some points I thought it was more David Lynch than the CoBros, but I like these kind of off-beat stories. I think Coen Brothers fans will enjoy their first effort, but it may not be polished enough for wide-spread consumption.

The story was great but the action and the acting sucked I'd pass on this one but if you give it a try it's better than tv just barly and no commercials but this on drags I warned you

I never saw this debut neo-noir from the Coen brothers before, and I really enjoyed it. A dark, dark revenge flick, with some twists I didn't see coming, and scored with an atmospheric piano composition adding the perfect eerie mood. All four of the main characters were terrific: (poor Dan Hedaya/Marty... You can't trust *anybody*!); and agreed, 'liquiddemons', Frances McDormand here in her first film was a hottie. FIVE STARS.

A bit clunky but worth a view if you are fan of the Cohen brothers. This, I believe, is their first feature film effort and the bargain-basement peripherals show through in some scenes. I found the plot to have a few holes as well. No spoiler alert but be prepared to be saying "what?" a few times upon viewing. Shout outs to M. Emmet Walsh for a creepy-good performance and of course to Frances McDormand who is good in everything (Cohen-brothers or otherwise) she does. She was a little hottie back in the day too!

I had forgotten how good this movie is. Blackly-comdic noir: a comedy of misunderstandings.

Quite engaging. There was a bit of drag at times and not a lot of action but the acting was good and the plot kept you from turning away. Mcdormand is always excellent.

Meurice: "Howdy stranger." Ray: Meurice. "Meurice. Sorry about last night." Meurice: "No sweat; wasn't too busy. You missed a good one, though. This white guy walks in about one o'clock, and asks if we have a discount for alcoholics... Well, I tell him to get lost, but now Marty's sittin' here, and I can tell he's thinkin' that maybe that ain't such a bad idea..."

Marty: "I got a job for you." Private Detective Visser: "Uh, well, if the pay's right, and it's legal, I'll do it." Marty: "It's not strictly legal." Private Detective Visser: "......Well, if the pay's right, I'll do it."

Marty (pushing ten grand across the table with his boot): "Count it... and go." Private Detective Visser: "Naw... I trust ya." (shoots Marty)
