This is my second attempt at Ghost Story. I gleefully pounced on it when it first came out, but couldn't get past Harry's rambling existentialist monologues with himself. The only reason I tried again is so I'd be prepared for the next book--Cold Days. It wasn't as bad the second time around, possibly because I was prepared to skim through the less interesting parts.

Poor Harry Dresden! I imagine Jim Butcher was positively gleeful when he wrote the latest chapter in the 'Dresden Files'. We now find Harry a ghost, trying to figure out a way to communicate with his friends, and warn them of danger. The tension keeps building in this series, as Harry gets in deeper & deeper. Where do you go when you are already dead?

At first I wasn't sure what I thought of this book, but then I was impressed by it. This one ends a story arc...or several. It's that last book before the author takes the series off down a different path, and it was beautifully done. A bit of a retrospective on how we got to where were are in Harry's life without becoming a boring recap, Butcher really took a storyline that could have been campy and turned it into something fun and funny, more than a little dark, familiarly nostalgic and immensly emotional. This books ends one chapter in the series just as it starts another, and I know I'm looking forward to the next one.

hands down. this is the best series I have ever read
Jim Butcher is such an awesome writer, and the plot he's been developing since "Changes" seems really good.

If you haven't read Jim Butcher yet, you are missing a great author! Don't start with this book though - it's fabulous but very much a later book in the series! I love what Jim is doing with the series. Can't wait for the next one!

Harry Dresden is a ghost. Shot while on his brother's boat, Harry has been given a choice at the crossroads of life, find his murderer or three of those he loves will suffer horribly.

So Harry goes about Chicago, trying to find someone who can see him and wants to help him on his quest. He also sees the aftermath of his wiping out the Red Court as a new force has risen up to fill the void left by the Red Courts absence and it has begun to turn its sights on Chicago.

An excellent entry in the series that will satisfy the long time fan, possibly making them tear up a bit towards the end. And the ending sets up the next stage of the series.

Wow - worth the wait! I had to slow myself down to savour each chapter. Found the ending a little abrupt, not sure if I'm happy with it but Butcher has great continuity in his stories and his development in characters are belieavable.

Definitly a change in style for the Dresden Files series. I enjoyed the book and it was interesting to see how much of an impact the death of Dresden had on the various supporting characters. For some its a drastic change. If you're a fan of the series definitly worth a read
