This picture book emphasizes the importance of community and taking care of those who are most vulnerable - plus, there is a cat!

When I picked this book up, I did not think I would end up crying. I'll admit I can get a bit over-emotional about picture books sometimes, but still! If you're worried that I cried because the cat on the cover died--never fear! The cat remains safe. This book is about a neighborhood cat bringing a community together, and the conclusion was so sweet and uplifting that I couldn't hold back a couple tears. This is a great book to read to your kiddos so you can discuss the power of community and reaching out to those who are initially outside it. Or, if you're like me and don't have any kids, you can read it anyway because kitties are awesome! I promise I won't judge you for reading a picture book.

This is a really cute book about the neighborhood cat - you know the kind - that seeks love from all the families on the block. No one goes to house number 11 - but one day the cat decides to move in there and everyone from the neighborhood decides to follow the cat and become friends with the old lady who lives there.
