When Deputy Ken Brody's sweetheart goes missing in the mountains outside Timber Creek, Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo are called to search. But it's mid-October and a dark snow storm is brewing over the high country. And they're already too late. By the time they find her body, the storm has broken and the snow is coming down hard. While Brody hikes down to bring back the forensics team and veterinarian Cole Walker gathers supplies to protect them from the storm, Mattie and Robo find themselves alone, guarding the gravesite overnight in the dead of the early winter. And that's only the first long, dark night in a series of them, because as their investigation develops, Mattie, Robo, Brody, and Cole find themselves in the middle of the killer's stalking ground--where the hunters have just become the hunted.

I’ve read two books in this series so far. I did enjoy this story and the characters. I especially like the interactions between Deputy Cobb and her K-9 partner, Robo.
In the second book, I noticed an error where the author mentions her main character took out her Glock and released the safety. Unfortunately, Glocks do not have external safeties, but instead an internal combination of safety protection. There may be a Glock model that has an external safety-type of tab behind the pistol grip, but it wasn’t made clear to the reader if this is what the author was talking about.
I send a polite email to the author about this, and she graciously responded and thanked me for pointing it out to her. Apparently, other readers had also mentioned the same error.
The only other comment I have is that some of the characters' dialogue seems stilted or “unreal.” At times I’m reminded of the old Saturday movie matinees where the good guys seem almost too good. There are a few places where this type of dialogue could be revised or eliminated altogether, without causing the reader any confusion.

I liked this book better than the first one, as it had a more believable plot, and fewer lines that were clunkers. (In my humble opinion.) I love the relationship between Mattie and Robo and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series! :)
