Starts off very slow and though the pacing eventually picks up it drifts into soap opera territory. However, it may appeal to readers who like dramatic family sagas, tensions between "upstairs" and "downstairs", and are able to accept some plot twists that would be implausible in real life.

Great historical fiction. Hooked on the story, currently reading Daughters of Ireland, book 2 in the series.
