Joan saw visions but should not be portrayed as insane? Interesting.

Like patron BlackPhoenix I couldn't stand this movie. I also forced myself to watch the whole thing, since I like most of the actors--Jojovich being one of them--but I agree that it was way too dramatic. Joan is completely hysterical and overboard and her visions make no sense. It always amuses me that when a movie takes license with historical facts people defend it for being artistic or some such nonsense. If someone wants to make a movie about Joan of Arc, well, than make a movie about her, unless you will make it clear that it is very, very loosely based on what is known of her life. Another good example of this kind of "historical" movie is Agora--a tsunami of inventions and distortions, but at least we know the director's motives: Almenabar is a self-style atheist. What's Besson's agenda?

This is a great movie. BlackPhoenix it is not a documentary. They were trying to make the film accessible to the general public. Obviously they would have to change certain aspects and act overdramatic, they need to cram 19 years of a girl’s life into a 158-minute movie

What a disaster. This is a modernized, Hollywood version of the story of Joan of Arc. Most of the story has been fictionalized, over-inflated, or made to be overly-dramatic. I don't know what was going on with Joan's visions in this adaptation - she's supposed to have seen Saint Michael, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine, not a random boy and a man who looks like Jesus. And her acting was way too dramatic - I think the director might have been going for the effect of making her appear like a lunatic, but, in my opinion, it went overboard. I forced myself to watch 40min of it and couldn't go any further. This film is not worth your time. A better adaptation is "Joan of Arc" starring Leelee Sobiesky (I don't think the library has it though). Now that's a good film!
