Daniel Jacobus, blind violinist, having honed his other senses so as to remain independent, sees connections others miss. It enriches the story to listen to some of the violin music mentioned as the three musicians work together to solve the mystery, which involves delving into insurance fraud and overseas shipping of musical instruments, as well as arson and murder. These are not the usual way to celebrate Christmas and New Year, but reading about winter is better than experiencing it, especially with Vivaldi playing as background.
