"A burning Ford full of things that blows up does draw a crowd."
I guess McGuane could be grouped with the so-called dirty realists like Carver and Ford. This reminded me a little bit of Russell Banks (the demimonde in a Florida setting) and Charles Portis (the eccentric characters and humor). McGuane directed a film version starring Peter Fonda and Margot Kidder, to whom he was married. He also wrote the screenplay to "Missouri Breaks."
