Excellent book though quite depressing.

Man's best friend is a product that is produced, packaged, marketed, and sold just like any other commodity. And the business of dog is a very big business indeed. From a dog auction in Missouri to the glittering world of the Westminster Dog Show, Kavin journeys around the country and explores Product Dog. Villains (puppy mills, for example) are thoughtfully reappraised, heroes (rescue operations) are tarnished in this thoughtful, fascinating, and eye-opening snapshot of the dog business. Essential reading for dog lovers (and highly recommended for the rest of us too!)
