An undeniably original and intense feature debut set in the insular world of a Ukrainian high school for the deaf. It unfolds through the non-verbal acting and sign language from a cast of deaf non-professionals, resulting in a unique, never-before-experienced cinematic event that engages the audience on a new sensory level.

Imagine watching a foreign film without subtitles, that's basically what you go through with this film, except the foreign language is sign language.
The story is pretty straight forward, so it's not hard to follow even without spoken dialogue but it's not a pleasant viewing experience.

A brutal youth film performed by deaf actors from Ukraine. There were no captions, only with minimal background sounds, quiet to mega-loud visuals as expressed by the intensity in sign language, levels in gesticulations, obvious scenes and actions as captured on camera. There is an option to watch with commentary on, but found the voices hard to understand (heavy accent) and with little to add but annoyance. Ingenious presentation on a neglected segment of people best described in Wikipedia: “ … the film is set in a boarding school for deaf children, where a new arrival is drawn into an institutional system of organised crime, involving robbery and prostitution. He crosses a dangerous line when he falls for one of the girls to whom he's assigned to pimp. …” Lastly, film is clearly low budget, too long at 126 minutes for the material and that many repetitive long sequences should be cut short or sped up.
