G.K. Chesterton's humble, astute Roman Catholic priest is one of the icons (no pun intended) of mystery fiction. This excellent introduction to Father Brown contains 15 stories, distinguished by their wit, precise language and strong sense of morality. Chesterton simply wrote better than most of his peers, combining a Dickensian sense of character with a clean, modern prose style. A planned crossover with Miss Marple never happened, alas. Introduced by P.D. James.
