This Bosnian author was the winner of the 1961 Nobel Prize for Literature. The book tells of the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire as played out in Bosnia. A bridge, built by the Turks in the 16th century, and destroyed in WW I, is the centre of the story of peasants then and now. A classic of its kind.
