I give this book a high rating because of the purity of the romance between Sutton and Jane. Neither of them set out to fall in love. They both had complicated lives that kept them from prioritizing a romantic endeavor in any kind of way. But the chemistry was there and their devotion and commitment towards what is required of a loving partner was also there. When this happens then you have no choice but to fall in love.

I struggled to finish this amateurish attempt at a novel. Not sure why. If I were this author's creative writing instructor in anything past high school, she would get a failing grade.
If she is attempting edginess with an LGBTQ or biracial angle, this is an even bigger fail. This was almost too vanilla for words. definitely too vanilla for Chinese cuisine/characters or calligraphy.

Wow! an intriguing title and story premise that a Caucasian author's debut novel about a Chinese/Irish poetess who created fortune cookie messages in NYC Chinatown, and her love affair with a Medical student who chose to frequent a noodle shop ... Unfortunately, not much about Confucious, poetry and little new on medicine. Gave up after about a third through.
