Like Jefd5, caught myself smiling and having fun watching this romantic fantasy. Romeo played by Óscar Jaenada was hilarious in fleecing willing female tourists ... nothing wrong as The American Gigolo 1980, How Stella Got Her Groove Back 1998 and Fading Gigolo 2013. This film's elements were well chosen: A book worm librarian, an enterprising tourist guide and a romantic vacation spot. The Spaniard Oscar with his Christian Bale good looks did not hurt one bit.

(Contains spoilers) Pretty scenery, a highly irritating ugly guy who is a guide cum prostitute, a depressed librarian with a passivity that will make you want to scream: here’s the story in a nutshell. Some scenes are endless and SO slow I almost quit watching. The main premise of this movie seems to be that listening to a man's endless babbling, and having sex can magically heal a woman’s deep psychological wounds. I think it takes a bit more than a one-night stand. I was, nevertheless, thankful for two small mercies: the librarian was never called “Ms.” and there was no reference to “rain forests”!

Enjoyed this movie, plus the scenery of Costa Rica. Sad story on one hand as there are many lonely, introverts. Laughed out loud at many moments.

So So awful. Wasn't even a good travel show in Costa Rica.
Marsh's hair just awful. Was that a wig? She could do better with a hair cut. Was there even a plot for this librarian? I could not watch til the end. What kind of a studio would fund this debacle?????

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The bonus being it is set in beautiful Costa Rica.

Being from California, I'm well aware of the skin cancer threat. Librarians are not known for their tans. We're usually pasty white. Besides, you wouldn't catch me dead at the beach.
Writer Jorge Luis Borges likens libraries to paradise. For me, public libraries would be a perfect place, except for one thing. The public. Of all the questions about all the books on every shelf in this library, what do these people ask?
- Excuse me.
Where is your bathroom?
If a person at death's door does see her life flashing before her... meaningful images, moments of great beauty... what could possibly fly before my eyes in those final moments? Where's the beauty in a wasted life? And so the point of this trip?
To create some beauty to play at the end. To make some pretty memories, even if it's in a hopeless 11th hour of a pathetic life. If it seems a foolish final wish, well, I haven't done anything foolish in a while.

Pura vida. I traveled here to do a little living before I died. I guess I did a little
too much living.
Where are you from, Jane?
-Uh, Los Angeles.
Los Angeles City. When you're here, there is one less angel in the City of Angels.
I am pathetic when I read the dictionary to find big words to use to impress American women. Yeah, to look smart.
-What, you're up to the letter "C"?
Well, I can tell you, I don't even feel like a pathetic librarian anymore, but... I don't really feel like myself either.
Casados means marriage, and this is a marriage of our foods. It's rice, beans,
plantain and local fish, mahi-mahi.
I truly am sorry to have done this to you, to have done this to myself while I'm with you. You really did show me the best week of my life. But unfortunately... I'd already screwed up the rest of it beforehand.
