This moody and impressionistic set of stories gives westerners a picture of contemporary Australian culture. Some of the stories—all? I couldn't tell on one viewing—are interrelated, but the anthology takes its time making that apparent. I found it worth watching, but a little long.

Be advised: Cate Blanchett only appears in one of the 12 stories, an episode called "Reunion" written by her (real-life) husband Andrew Upton. Mia Wasikowska doesn't appear at all; she wrote and directed one of the segments. But Rose Byrne (bet you didn't know *she* was an Aussie!) and Miranda Otto do appear. There's even a story told in dance. Set aside 3 hours.

beautiful cinematography; raw, edgy, challenging stories.

in hindsight, after researching Tim Winton, I realize that several of the stories in this film are about Vic. I won't watch it again for 3 hours, but I wish I'd known this before I watched it.

the music ends, the story is over, the next one begins, and you might be scratching your head.
