Really good crime movie. Although long, it moves fast and action is laced with a ton of black humor. A certain number of people get shot dead on camera, but there is little of the gruesome sadistic fare that has unfortunately become popular.

Jean Dujardin miscast in lead role. Pretty long film at 135 minutes. But it's based on a true story that's compelling.

In the 1971 film The French Connection (8 Oscar noms, with wins for best Picture and best Actor, etc), Gene Hackman starred as NYC detective Popeye Doyle who was investigating drug trafficking, with the source eventually leading to France. The success of the film led to a 1975 film, The French Connection II, which concentrated on Hackman investigating in France. In this new French film, Jean Dujardin (previous Oscar winning actor for the Oscar winning 2011 picture The Artist) stars in this new film The Connection as a persistent French drug “Magistrate” trying to halt the drug source in France.
