A rambunctious comedy, pitched about half way between Dead Souls and The Producers. The Twelve Chairs was not a financial success when it was first released, possibly because the public expected broader humour from Mel Brooks. The Soviet Union in 1927 was no party. However, if you like a varied tone -- from slapstick to subtle -- this film is for you. Starring a lost Dr. Who, Ron Moody, and "a great guy, and gorgeous" Frank Langella.
