The main character is hard to like; she's so antagonistic toward everyone. But she is determined to get to the bottom of a supposed suicide and rape that she's sure are connected. When it's obvious that the Navy brass doesn't want her to figure things out, Dan forces her way onto the submarine as it heads out to sea, and disturbs the entire crew. I stopped reading when she was obviously going to be court-martialed and still wouldn't confide in her former partner, a tactic that nearly got her killed last investigation.
