Firstly, I've not read the book/play.
This is an odd production that tries to be a feature film while still capturing the feel of a play. For me, this did not work much of the time. The actors seemed overly dramatic - overemphasis on certain lines or words; exaggerated facial expressions; and, most annoying, so much forced laughter that I kept thinking the ending would reveal all of the characters were actually mental patients. It was interesting enough for me to want to research the original material on Wikipedia or another resource and from there I may read the book - I'm still not sure.

This is a pretty weird movie, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a pleasure to get to see Wallace Shawn in a lead role.

On the eve of his death a despotic old man who has used and abused people all his life is visited by the ghosts of transgressions past and present. Painfully slow, overtly theatrical, and taking too many liberties with Ibsen's original work. Well played finale however.
