Lieutenant James Shelley commands a high-tech squad of soldiers in a rural district within the African Sahel. They hunt insurgents each night on a harrowing patrol, guided by three simple goals: protect civilians, kill the enemy, and stay alive. In a for-profit war manufactured by the defense industry there can be no cause worth dying for. To keep his soldiers safe, Shelley uses every high-tech asset available to him, but his best weapon is a flawless sense of imminent danger as if God is with him, whispering warnings in his ear.

There was much more to this story than I expected, and it was a very fun read. Great for Cyberpunk or Tom Clancy fans.

I liked this concept of wars being determined by the armament companies, that there were fine lines to follow for what was too much and what wasn't for profit and business alliances.
I also liked the hero of the story, he was portrayed as reckless but brave and a man to inspire loyalty, but not invincible. I thought it was a good mix.
This was not stellar, mind blowing, we've never seen it before military scifi, but it was a great solid story with some original aspects and lots of action.

This author has done such a good job with technical/action/characterization/pace in the 3 books of this trilogy that I just had to write a brief poem to her:
How can a lady write like a man?
I have no answer for that.
But IF a lady can write like a man,
I can only applaud her for that
