As good as Maclean's Eastern Approaches, part history, part spy craft, part travel adventure, part the story of some very intrepid men. Also helps one understand Russia's long history of conflict with Turkey, Iran and the Caucuses, and makes clear why one would not want to invade Afghanistan.
