Josephine Buck dreams of becoming a hataalii, or Navajo healer, but for now, she's working at The Outpost. Tom Stuart's trading post/general store sells everything from groceries to fabric, from cheap souvenirs to artisan-created jewelry. Tom's a surrogate father to his staff and the heart of the community. Early one morning, Jo finds her beloved boss dead in his nearby home -- murdered. She's barely begun to grieve when Tom's estranged son, Ben, arrives on compassionate leave from the army, determined to find out who killed his father. Seeing Jo is a sharp reminder of their time as high school sweethearts -- and that she walked away from him when he needed her most. For Jo, Ben's return awakens old desires, but she's wary. Their approaches to life are so different. He craves risk and danger ; she, stability and family. It soon becomes cler that Tom's murder was the first step in a chain of violence -- and that Detective Katie Wells isn't working very hard to find his killer. Jo and Ben must solve the murder of a man they each loved. Their passion for justice ignites a deeper passion in them both.

I very much enjoy Aimee Thurlo's style of writing. For me that means that the engaging story flows flawlessly. I read all her books a few years ago and plan to read them again in the near future.

The Thurlo's have written many excellent mysteries set in the American Southwest, on or near Native American lands. A Time of Change is a stand-alone story that could well be the first book in a new series. I would enjoy reading more about Josephine and her co-workers, friends and relatives.
Good job!
